Bhramaram Review

Blessy is back this time with Mohanlal with a good movie Bhramaram. The movie is definitely brillinat in parts. The director was succesful in maintaing the tempo of the movie most of the time except for in some scenes.

There are few holes in the plot but still the script and direction are good compared to Calcutta News or Palunku.The camera by Ajay Vincent is good and the editing is also not very bad.But the grahics used in many scenes is ridilculous the music is considerably good and performance of the supporting cast commendable.

Bhramaram is a road movie with the second half almost fully a journey and what happen in between.The movie opens with a stranger arrives at Unnikrishnan's house in Coimbatore claiming to be a friend but Unnikrishnan could not place him.His mysterious behavior makes the family suspcious.The incidents that follow make the plot of the movie.....The director maintains the tempo and thrill till the climax where the thrill is lost..but the director succede it in ending the movie well.

There is one little thing that makes the movie special and that is the performance of one man...Mohanlal.It has been long since we have seen him like this.He plays his role to perfection portraying all the mood swings of the man with ease without doubt one of the best performance by him......His performance makes the movie a must watch for all movie goers.

Jayaraj's 'Loud Speaker' is a charming film that sets forth a gentle ripple of goodness in your heart. It's a film about being human; a highly gratifying piece of refreshing geniality.

Haunted by a daunting past, Menon (Sasikumar) returns to India after a long forty five years in the US. His fast failing health leads him on to a chance encounter with Mic (Mammootty), a simpleton who has arrived in the city to earn some money. Mic soon wins over the hearts of the folks around him and earns the nickname 'Loudspeaker' with his bellowing sound.

'Loudspeaker' is all about a dejected individual whose life is tremendously altered by a man, who infuses it with a burst of passion that the former had never experienced. It's equally possible that Menon might have chosen to turn away from the warmth of life around him, since at some point he admits to having run away from memories.

The long process by which Mic gradually pushes himself into Menon's life is endearing. Menon is left with little choice, and soon they set up a strange sort of camaraderie that defies their disparities. For Menon, there are several steps down the ladder, that he willfully steps down, before he puts his arms around his cheerful new friend. And for Mic, for whom the whole world has been nothing but a small hamlet, Menon is a revelation. It isn't an easy journey for both of them; from being alone in their respective worlds to learning to rely on one another.

Outcasts in their own right, Menon and Mic have a lot in common. This commonness finds expression in different ways in both of them. Menon has turned out be a hermit of sorts, and has resignedly settled down to an existence that swells with emptiness. Mic on the other hand simply refuses to give up, and vigorously hangs on to the very last straw, all the while hoping to start it all over again.

There are several touches that steer the film just slightly away from the mainstream. These are characters you and me would actually care about and probably even relate to; these are recognizable human beings that you get to see on screen. And the film doesn't depend entirely on its plot; rather it's built on several tender moments that are true heart warmers.

The loud speaking Mic is a role that real actors would fall head over heels for; and one that stars would shy away from. It has Mammootty at his best, and by virtue of his natural charm and dazzling wit, Mic gets away with almost everything that he does. As simple as it appears, this is an intricate role that he breathes all his life into, with an outstanding performance that could easily be seen as a marvel of contemporary screen acting.

The real revelation of the film would be Sasikumar. I wouldn't want to see anybody else as Menon; Sasikumar is as real as Menon could ever be. Mildly restrained and adding on that extra bit of appeal, the veteran journalist has been perfectly cast as the man who fumbles around with the bits and pieces of his life.

By the end of the film Mic and Menon have both grown into something more. There are none of those tear jerking monologues in the finale. It's another matter altogether if the film moves you in several ways than you probably would ever admit.

'Loud Speaker' is a film that I want to believe in. One of those films that would have you walk out of the cinema hall with a smile on your face, it speaks volumes of the life that we so often miss out on.

Off-beat films have invariably done well in Kerala. No wonder "Kazhcha"(Spectacle) starring Mega star Mammootty is doing well both in terms of audience acceptance and box office ratings . The film is an authentic assertion of the universality of love, compassion and empathy. It appeals both to the ordinary film-goer as well as the cognoscenti. It is an unconventional film that stands out for thematic novelty and directorial skill. The film seems to have gone down well with the audience, tired of being fed stale fares by the mainstream Malayalam cinema. The rich visual spectacle unfolds against the picturesque backwaters of Kuttanad in Kerala's Alleppey district. Hero Madhavan, played by Mammootty is a happy-go-lucky person who has an enduring passion for photography. The camera-loving Madhavan moves around villages framing shots that catch his fancy. His 16 mm projector has an eye for the detail and concentrates on festivals at temples and churches. Into this placid landscape arrives a boy, (Master Yash). The boy, a victim of the horrendous Gujarat earthquake, has strayed into Kerala. Madhavan feels pity for the boy and takes an instant liking to him. But there is a big handicap : the language problem. Madhavan cannot make head or tail of the language the boy speaks! Gradually the shy boy opens up and the language barrier disappears. Undeterred, Madhavan takes the boy home. Then begins the search for the boy's parents in far-away quake-devastated Gujarat. The film ends on a positive note. Director Blessey has managed to get standout performances from the main characters. Mammootty essays the role of Madhavan with customary panache. Padmapriya, who plays his wife is a perfect foil for the hero, fully empathising with the plight of the boy who is initially ill at ease in an alien milieu.. But it is Master Yash, the vagabond boy who walks away with acting honours. It is a riveting performance that touches a responsive chord. The emotional turmoil and the sense of alienation the boy experiences have been essayed with utmost sincerity and poise. Kazhcha also signals a successful directorial debut for Blessy, who worked as an assistant to ace director, Lohitadas once. The finesse with which he has handled a sensitive theme is the envy of even seasoned directors. Special mention must be made of the camera work by cameraman, Azhagappan. The fabulous frames of Kuttanad's backwaters and villages in Kutch(Gujarat) add to the poignance of the film, lending it an authentic touch. The film has been produced by famous wedding caterer Naushad and Manu Mathew. The cast also includes Kalabhavan Mani, Innocent, Venu Nagavally and Agustine. The music of Mohan Sitara is another plus point of the film. The song "Kunje ninakkuvendi" rendered passionately by the peerless Yesudas takes the cake. A peppy duet picturised on Mammootty and Manoj K Jain has also become popular. The lyrics are by Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri. A must see for all those who love good cinema
